Norman Sievewright said he was asleep, when a loud bang woke him. He found his cell phone battery — in flames — on the carpet. The phone had been charging while he was asleep.

Sieve wright described the scene as scary - complete with fumes and smoke. He said the back had been blown-off of the phone.

Nokia has said it will examine the phone but refuses to state until the exact cause of the fire is ascertain.
